99 instead of 4 as #1 is absurd
Not a bad book except for the absurdity of Gretzky being #1 in front of Orr. It seems to me the only people this would be a debate for are those who are not old enough or lucky enough to have seen Orr actually skate and play. You can't just look at numbers on a page and decide; you have to watch them in action! And anyone who has watched Orr in action wouldn't mistake Gretzky for #1. Gretzky put up AMAZING numbers, and, yes, that is part of the decision making process. But not all of it.
Accurate and Interesting
What makes this book so credible is that the most respected names in the world of hockey analysis compiled a list of the men that were the best of the best during their time.Due to the date of publication, some of the rankings would no longer be considered legit, but while reading about a certain player, the information and stories provided allows you to forget about rankings and simply relive the magic that the players brought to the game. Top 100?
How can this book claim to be about the top players of all time when Steve Yzerman is conspicuously absent from the top 50. How many of these players have clocked up his kind of numbers ( for example: 155 points in a season ) and still continue to be a prodigious presence on the ice? Top 100? Don't make me laugh. "The Greatest One There Will Be"
The book Wayne Gretzky "The Great One" is about a boy that grows up in Canada. He played in the WHL for the Soo Sault Marie Grey Hounds. Then he got drafted by the Edmonton Oilers. After 4 straight seasons they won a Stanley Cup. Then he got traded to the Los Angeles Kings. When he was in Los Angeles they won 3 Stanley Cups. Then in a few years he got traded to the St. Loius Blues. He didn't like it in St. Loius, so for the first time in his career he was a free agent. Then the New York Rangers wanted him, so he went to New York. In 1998 he retired from New York. He is still living in New York. He has 3 children. Wayne Gretsky: Sports Superstars Series
The series of tiny books are genarally not worth paying full price.I liked the Wayne Gretsky book the best.It talks how he could hit a coin in the goal net with a hockey puck far away.

A great resource
This book is a great resource for all hockey fans.It has very in-depth career and season statistics of every player that played in the NHL the year before its titla date ('99-'00).I highly recommend getting this book if you are looking for stats fromthat season.However, this is pretty useless now, since there have been 2 updated editions.

The Village Idiot Grows Up
One chapter isn't bad reading, if you're a Tickethead.The hockey stories are pretty interesting, also.Unfortunately, his ramblings about the environment are an all-too-painful reminder of the cluelessness that made his Dallas radio show unlistenable.Making a long story short, the village idiot may have grown up, but he didn't get any smarter.

I don't normally write reviews on here, but I thought that the last one was a little too harsh.There were a few typos in the book, yes, but the sentences were not necessarily run-ons.They were just more complex than I ever expected from the author.Read more

Real facts and inspiration

A true Hockey story
An extremly important story about one of sports most dedicated people. Roger Neilson devoted his life to many and Wayne Scanlan does his legacy justice by devoting himself to Roger. The facts are amazing and this story will fill in any blaks you may have of Roger's life.

Interesting, informative, and funny...a cover-to-cover gem!
I accidentally came across a copy of 'Roger's World' in a bookstore in downtown Philadelphia. After reading it front to back in one sitting, it amazes me that there wasn't any publicity (at least in cities where Roger coached) surrounding the release of this book. Wayne Scanlan has managed to do the impossible; he's managed to fit the very fulfilling life of Roger Neilson into just about 200 pages. Don't let the length of the book fool you, however. Scanlan managed to not only unearth a slew of interesting facts and hilarious stories about Roger's coaching stints in baseball and hockey, but he also gives a very rare glimpse into the personal side of a man who touched so many lives outside of the realm of pro sports. Fans of all sports should embrace this biography, but hockey fans -- and especially anyone who ever had the good fortune to witness Roger behind a bench -- should consider it a 'must read'. The chapter about Roger's quirks and mishaps will have you roaring with laughter, and the seemingly endless stories about his grace and kindness as a human being will surely cause even the toughest 'checkers' to shed a tear or two. ... Typos speak more than the stars
Wish I had a buck for every typo in this book. Brutal.

Hockey Stars Speak
Hhmm.. This wasn't a bad book at all. It gives pretty good insight into the lives of star players like Pavel Bure and such, and gives info on how they got started and who helped them develope into the players they are now. Around the back part it has some pages that go into the personal lives of players like Roenick and tells the kinds of superstitions and routines that they have and if your an Avs fan they have an interview with Marc Crawford at the very end.All in all, not a bad book.

Entertaining Rainy Day Read
"Hockey Players Speak" is an enjoyable read so long as you ingnore the common punctuation errors and the fact that some of the players interviewed are still in the process of learning english. All in all, the reader gets some very personal stories directly from the player's mouths and at the same time realize that these guys are human and don't spend their entire lives on the ice. one Hull of a book
Dennis Hull is perhaps best known as Bobby's younger brother or Brett's uncle.Many people (maybe even Dennis) don't realize that Dennis had a very good career.
