3-0 out of 5 stars Good for hockey nuts, but not the best writing
Great hockey stories and insight into the evolution of modern professional hockey and backroom stories about what hockey referees go through.I like nonfiction and I officiate hockey so this book was a natural. If you're interested in "old time" hockey from the 1960's which is when Bruce Hood started officiating professional hockey or like to get the inside story on the NHL up until the 80's this is a great book. The quality of writing is a little weak but Hood has some great stories about being a referee, traveling around the country, what players and coaches of his era said and how they acted.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best sports books on the planet
I could not put this book down because this book symbolized what it takes to succeed in life.I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for what it takes to be successful at whatever you want to do with yourlife.

5-0 out of 5 stars An intelligent sports book.
Dryden may be the Canadian hockey equivalent of basketball's Bill Bradley. I wouldn't be surprised if Dryden becomes Prime Minister of Canada in 20years.5-0 out of 5 stars The best hockey book ever written
This is the definitive book of hockey. Dryden's thoughts on goaltending, the city of Boston, and on the state of hockey cannot be matched. Dryden had an incredible insight on what was wrong with the game and where the game was headed, even back in 1983. I read this book once a year, it is that good. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars If you're not a Stevie Y fan, this book will make you one.
I highly reccomend this book to any fan of the Red Wings and their Captain. Some parts will make you smile while other parts will make you teary-eyed, but all of it will make you very proud to be a Red Wings fan. And if you're not already a fan, this book just might make you into one. If you think all modern athletes are selfish and just in it for the money, this book will show you that there are still exceptions.Unfortunately, itwas published before the Wings won their latest Cups, so you can't readabout that in here, but that just makes you realize how special it is towin the Cup.

5-0 out of 5 stars Steve Yzerman is the GREATEST hockey player of all times!

5-0 out of 5 stars Will bring tears to your eyes

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
This book has been very enjoyable. Ted Mahovlich has done an excellent job in telling us the interesting story about his father. He showed us the Punch Imlach lacked class and Frank Mahovlich had a lot of class and finally enjoyed his career when he joined the best organization in sports at the time the Montreal Canadiens. I would recommend this to any hockey fan or sports fan in general

5-0 out of 5 stars A brilliant biography of the legendary Big M.
Frank Mahovlich was one of THE great players in the history of hockey. This books gives a thoughtful and intelligent insight into the mind of the quiet giant who won four Stanley Cups with the Leafs and two more with the Canadiens.5-0 out of 5 stars The Big M: The Frank Mahovlich Story

4-0 out of 5 stars EUROPEAN FAN LIKES IT
You know i really liked this book just because of that its nice to see great european players past and present in this book. unlike other books where it's just nhl players, this book has both nhl players and european players included. As a international hockey historian i really enjoyed it. gretzky-kharlamov-nedomansky-salming and many other great players are in this book. the price is my only problem with the book, it cost some bucks.
