2-0 out of 5 stars Where did I hear that before?
As with the 2 previous reviews, I agree that alot of the book was repetitive. The book also lacked flow. There were spots that he should have given more details but didn't.There were some interesting notes as to why players were not taken to task. However, I found myself looking for more....but it just wasn't there.

2-0 out of 5 stars Over and Over and Over
As a Rangers fan, I expected at minimum an interesting read. But what I got is a poorly written piece of tripe. Talk about repetitive: In one instance the writer, Rick Carpiniello, quotes three players--back-to-back-to-back--who essentially say the same thing.3-0 out of 5 stars Get in the corners, Carp!
While this book did confirm some of my worst suspicions (GM Mark Messier and Muckler's uh, style), I found that after awhile, it read like a gigantic newspaper article, with re-hashing of stats and scores (They were 1-8-1, with 30 shots...yadayadayada). I even recognized some of the quotes from the papers. It seemed that Carpiniello wanted and tried to be honest, but since I suppose he's still working around these guys, he can't get too opinionated. For instance, he would recall an intriguing incident or remark, then leave it alone. I would have preferred to hear his personal opinions of why Muckler did or said 'such and such.' Here and there, he might insert a little bit of what he thinks, he does get on Sather a little bit, but I'd prefer if he had just let it fly. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars the real #1 all-time netminder
The author is basically a fan of Hall rather than a bitter journalist and because of this he gets it right. I was most interested in Hall's days sharing the nets with Jacques Plante in St. Louis and it shows how Hall basically helped turn St. Louisinto the NHL's best new market back in 1967. Hall also comes across as no dummy and a very honorable teammate and man. 5-0 out of 5 stars Glenn Hall-The Man They Call Goalie by Thomas Adrahtas
This is a good book for hockey enthusiasts. Coach-Tom Adrahtas5-0 out of 5 stars A must read for goaltenders
Everyone who has ever donned the pads and has even the slightest sense of hockey history has waited for someone to tell the amazing story of one of the creases greatest denziens.Glenn Hall's amazing accomplishments on the rink have been enshirened in sport's almanacs and stat books for all to see, but no one has ever been able to bring his personal story to light. No one until Tom Adrahtas.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent sports biography of hockey's Cammi Granto
Cammi Granato and Women's Hockey might not be as important in the minds of sports fans as some women who play soccer, basketball and tennis, but up here in the Northland (home of the only team ever to win the NCAA Frozen Four of Womens Hockey) we are talking about something that is more akin to a religion than a sport.More importantly, Thom Loverro has written one of the best juvenile biographies of a sports star I have read in some time.Starting with the 3-1 over Canada that earned the United States the first Olympic gold medal in Women's hockey, Loverro tells the story of how the only girl playing a "boys-only" game in Downer's Grove, Illinois grew up to be a captain for the U.S. Olympic Team. The idea that Granato was a "Hockey Pioneer" is not far-fetched.Although she did not play in high school, because, of course, her high school did not have a girl's team, Granato earned a hockey scholarship at Providence. After graduation she played for four more years in Canada while going to graduate school at Concordia. While her older brother Tony became a right win for the San Jose Sharks of the NHL, Cammi became the best-known player in women's hockey.Loverro's quick paced biography covers all of Granato's accomplishments on the ice with plenty of statics and some nice quotes from the star herself. The book has lots of color photographs of Granato and a page of career highlights for those who love to consume statistics. This is an excellent sports biography for young readers, who will wish that similar books about other sports stars were half this good. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable and informative reading
I loved this book.It was not only entertaining, but it gave a lot of insight into the workings of the legal field in pro sports as well as television and entertainment.I found myself thinking "I'd forgotten all about that" or "Is that how that came about?", and the hockey names from the past that I'd long since forgotten were brought back to the present by the writing of Mr. Swados. This was well worth the time it took to read it!

5-0 out of 5 stars A strong memoir of his encounters with coaches, players, and owners alike
Hockey fans who are avid followers of the sport will surely recognize the name of Robert O. Swados, who has been a league owner, executive, and franchise builder in the professional hockey world for over forth years. Counsel In The Grease: A Big League Player In The Hockey Wars provides a strong memoir of his encounters with coaches, players, and owners alike, describing the many changes he's observed in the sport since his initial involvement in the 1960s, and his up and down years with the National Hockey League. A lively set of insights on the sports world as a whole makes Counsel In The Grease a highly recommended pick indeed.
3-0 out of 5 stars Where'sThe Fact Checker???
Good grief Robert, who was your fact checker?? Understandably this book was written by an aging old employee of the Sabres so a pass is given to him on his recollection of facts but GEEZ somebody at the publishing company should have checked this over before releasing this. Where do I begin? OK, Joe Daley was NOT traded for Roger Crozier...that was Tom Webster, Pat Lafontaine did not suffer his concussion against the Bruins, it was the Penguins, the Atlanta Flames entered the NHL in 1972 not 1974, the Capitals entered in 1974 not 1972, Floyd Smith was not the coach when Tony McKegney was drafted, Swados says he attended a game at the Copps Coliseum in Hamilton in 1981 and then in the next paragraph he says the building didn't exist in the early 1990's, which is it? Gil Perreault was not drafted in the Fall of 1969, Willie O'Ree was long out of the NHL (1960-61) when the Knox's had Oakland Seals ties, the Sabres did not play their first game in 1969, Dave Forman died in 1987 so how did you call him and ask for advice in the 1990's? Facts like this should have been checked by SOMEBODY! All this and I'm only half way through the book. I'm all for telling the TRUE story of the Buffalo Sabres but find somebody who knows what's going on. What's Paul Weiland doing these days? John B. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Jackie Robinson of Hockey
Although geared towards young adults, I think that everyone who is a hockey fan can benefit from reading this book.It is an inspirational story of someone who despite daily facing unjust restrictions and attitudes, persisted in pursuing a career in the game that he loved most: hockey.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Enjoyable!
This is probably the most enjoyable book I have read regarding hockey or hockey players. Brett provides a light-hearted look at his life that is neither boastful nor "preachy". He is surprisingly modest given the extraordinary career he has had. I particularly enjoyed hearing of his days growing up in the shadow of his legendary dad and how he overcame his own personal obstacles. This book could easily have been two or three times as thick but I am guessing Brett would not have enjoyed writing a lengthy tome - and clearly Brett is motivated by fun more than anything else! A great lesson for anyone!

4-0 out of 5 stars The Biography ofBrett Hull
Brett Hull was a great hockey player. He worked very hard to become a star player. It was very hard growing up the son of a famous hockey player, especailly after his parents divorced. I think Brett Hull will be remembered and admired for his goal scoring and records he set on the ice. After reading this book I will remember him for how hard he works and how he never gave up his dream. I would recommend this book top everyone that is a hockey lover. I enjoyed the book and was happy I chose it.

5-0 out of 5 stars GAME WINNING BOOK BY BRETT HULL
THIS IS THE STORY OF BRETT HULL IN HIS OWN WORDS. I REALLY LIKED THIS BOOK. BRETT DOES A NICE JOB DESCRIBING HIS CAREER, RELATIONSHIP WITH HIS DIVORCED PARENTS, AND HIS THOUGHTS ON BEING HIMSELF. BRETT FINALLY PLAYED ON A STANLEY CUP WINNER IN 1999. HE TELLS OF ALL THE PLAYOFF DEFEATS AND THE FRUSTRATIONS DURING HIS CAREER. HE ADDS HUMOR, HONESTY, AND ALOT OF INSIGHTS ON THE GAME OF HOCKEY. I RECOMMEND THIS TO ALL HOCKEY FANS AS A GOOD READ. ... Read more
