5-0 out of 5 stars Chaser will always be remembered
A great book covering the life and times of Kelly Chase. It has many unique pictures and details of the not so easy life of an NHL player. As a Blues and a Chase fan I highly reccomend this book. I know it is one of my favorites that I can read over and over. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars as exciting a read as Pavel in full flight
Although the author really didn't have much access to Pavel himself, he fills in lots of the gaps and dispells a lot of the myths about the most exciting player to put on a Nux jersey (sorry, Markus Naslund...you're great but you don't lift me out of my seat like Pavel did). 5-0 out of 5 stars The Russian Rocket
I think that this book is probably the best book out there right now. It tells the reader everything about the Russian Rocket, including his relationship with his father. And if you're a hockey fan like me, you really have to read this wonderful book.So don't delay, order today!

5-0 out of 5 stars Mysterious but enlightening.
If you're looking as to why Pavel Bure appears to be such a "selfish little (...)" (as quoted by a certain Canadian famous hockey personality), then you should read this. The readers are treated to potential reasons as to why Bure acts like he does. He's got his reasons like anyone else does, one of them being he grew up in the former Soviet Union and their media laws towards sports are very different from that of North Americas.Another one being that he is an introvert that simply doesn't like to be bothered.Read more

the book was in great condition.and as a flyers fan, i am happy to have this book in my library.
5-0 out of 5 stars A must-read for Flyers fans!
Having grown up a Flyers fan and hearing Gene Hart for many years, I loved this book. It's a great combination of how Gene became associated with the Flyers, as well as a timeline of the Flyers' history from the beginning up to the early 90's.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Book by the Greatest Announcer
I first started listening to Gene Hart calling Flyers games in 1968.Hewas a wonderful announcer when the Flyers were mediocre and was absolutelysuperb when they were on top.I've heard a lot of sports broadcasting in alot of cities around the country in the last 35 years and no one else inany sport approaches Gene's work. I was disappointed when he stoppedannouncing and deeply saddened with his passing last year. His book isevery bit as fine as his radio and television work.Of the several Flyersbooks in print, his supasses the others in intimacy, first handrecollections and general nostalgic value.I sure miss Gene Hart, but thisbook and some tapes of television broadcasts he did are my most treasuredsports memorabilia. He is a Hall of Famer and his writing belongs theretoo. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Not For Everyone
If you are a huge hockey fan, with knowledge about players and teams, new and old, throughout Canada and at all age levels, you are the right person for this book.Reading about places, people, and teams that I didn't know anything about was very frustrating and made it hard to keep reading.A good portion of the book was just comparing Gretzky and Crosby. That was interesting, in moderation.I was looking for a book to tell all about Sidney Crosby and his trip to the NHL.This book has that, but it came along with a lot of extra stuff that was unnecessary.

1-0 out of 5 stars A bit painful
OK, any time a new star pops up there is an author wanting to make a quick buck. I knew better than to jump on the first unofficial biography but did anyways. Like any book of this genre, the entire thing comes off as "I talked to someone who talked to someone who once knew Sidney and based on that we can deduce this...". It was clear from the author's account that they stalked the Crosby family for a period of time and despite that effort failed to gain any deep insights from Sidney or his family. This entire book could have been written after reading newspaper clippings and perhaps a 30 minute interview with Sidney. My recommendation - wait until Sidney lives up to the hype (and I suspect he will!) and then read his official biography. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Very Short, But Enjoyable Book About Bobby Orr - The Greatest of ALL TIME
Bobby Orr was the greatest hockey player of all time. I was a little young to see him play during his career (I only had a chance to see a few games towards the end of his career after his knees had failed him) but I've had a chance to see hours of footage from dozens of games in his prime, and I can confidently assert that there was no one as good as he was, ever.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best Boston Hockey Moment-Best Hockey Player...ever!!!
"The Goal" is a great book that brings back the memories and magic that culminated in one of hockey's greatest moments. Some would argue that this is the greatest moment ever in the sport. Orr's miracle season created a new era in hockey. Bobby Orr ran the defense and the offense for the Boston Bruins. Harry Sinden recalls some wonderful inside details in this polaroid style flashback. What makes this book special are all the quotes by other players who were in awe of Orr. Bobby not only made for one of the greatest pictures in sports, he also electrified and transformed a city. Orr dominated both ends of the ice, and he could body check, fight and get very emotional. Gretzky was a great stat accumulator and an excellent passer and puck handler. I would say that Bobby Orr could pass, skate and check equal to or better than Wayne Gretzky. Orr's slapshot was harder. His body took a pounding, whereas nobody laid a finger on the great one. Bobby would often block shots (sans helmet) and then break up ice to either set goals up or score them himself. Gretzky was rarely found playing any kind of defense. Winner, Orr. This book will further solidify the legend, and make the memories, stories and smiles all as fresh as when it all happened. Next year will mark the 25th anniversary of the greatest goal in hockey. It's safe to say it won't happen like that ever again.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very cool
A must have for any Bobby Orr or Boston Bruins fan. The greatest goal by the greatest hockey player ever. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Breaking the Ice
This is a great book!Highly recommended for hockey fans and non-hockey fans alike.

2-0 out of 5 stars could have been so much more
Unfortunately, this interesting topic is ultimately undone by the book's facile approach & its author's lame, 4th grade prose.
5-0 out of 5 stars Exploring Black Hockey accomplishments despite adversities
Despite the fact that I am not a sports fan, I became engrossed in the book Breaking The Ice. This literary work is a true page turner. In comparison to the typical sports book, which is filled with statistics and plays, Harris; expertise in this field yielded an exploratory history of Black Hockey Players? successes and many obstacles in pursuit of reaching the pinnacle of their game. For most that meant achieving the goal of being a National Hockey League player. Breaking The Ice examines those Black Hockey players who in their attempt to obtain this goal endured much inhumane treatment but continues to persevere. Along with the players? mental anguish, Harris? documents how players such as: Carnegie, Marson, O?Ree, and Mayers (to name a few) love of the game inspired them to continue following their dreams even in the face of outrageous resistance from the spectators, fellow players and coaches. The Black Hockey players were determined to make it and to overcome no matter what. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Trip down Memory Lane
An enjoyable trip amongst the stars and events of the past as told by one who was there. Dick Irvin is a kind, gentlemanly figure who avoids any attempt at contraversy in his writings. This book is on one hand a refreshing escape from the "tell all" books that aim to rip the halo from its heroes; on the other hand, it is a santitized look at the past which skirts a number of harsh issues and unsavoury incidents. As one who remembers as a lad watching the Rocket on tv, it is like sitting down with a friend as he reminisces about your youth and the people you knew. If you didn't know better, you would assume that you and Dick had grown up together, knowing as many of the same people as you do. A lightweight book that is a good summer afternoon retreat! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Little Book
Even if you live in a climate that will never allow you to build a backyard rink, this wonderful little book should be read. In a age where youth sports are increasingly dominated by organization and structure and where the attraction of video games keeps kids inside on even the nicest of days, this book takes us to a place where play is unstructured, where one can lose themself in the early morning hours or under the stars, where family and friends can gather to play, skate and even sometimes compete, where the rituals of building, maintaining and disassembling the rink mark the passage of time.
