5-0 out of 5 stars These guys walk the talk!
Since reading "So your son..." nearly two years ago, through various routes, my son and I have become good friends with both Dan and Jay Bylsma and the rest of the Bylsma family. I can honestly say that these guys really do "walk the talk" by putting into practice what the book says. It's a great read if you're a hockey fan but its not just about how one of kid made it to becomming a professional sportsman - their emphasis on a moral compass, sound family values and good educaton really can be used as a practical guide to parenting. Kids don't come with an instruction manual and most of us parents need all the help we can get! I would suggest to anyone wanting a "how do you do it" guide to practical, commonsense, no nonesense child rearing "GET THIS BOOK!" and read it. Great stuff!

4-0 out of 5 stars This book makes a father think.
It's not easy raising a successful athlete, and it is even more difficult raising a successful adult. Your Son Wants to Be in the NHL shows us a young adult who seems to have become both. It tells the tale of how DanBylsma grew from childhood success to success in the NHL. More importantly,it shows us how a boy can grow into manhood and become a person you wouldlike to have as a neighbor.5-0 out of 5 stars former college hockey player and father says first rate
I highly recommend this book to any father, coach or athlete of any age.I think if I had read it in high school, it may have changed my outlook on sports and life. The book takes you from a player and his father'sbeginnings in sport, through other people's (parent's) interferences toshow how following one's goals can lead to success. ... Well as a die hard Darren McCarty fan, I thought that this book was very well written. 5-0 out of 5 stars Will leave the reader deeply moved
Ben Peyton was a seventeen year old hockey player who received a crippling spinal cord injury during a game. Be Not Afraid: Ben Peyton's Story is a personal story of a young man whose experiences and courage document the endurance of the human will and spirit. Deftly written by Peter Rennebohm, Be Not Afraid is a very special and enthusiastically recommended biography that will leave the reader deeply moved both emotionally and spiritually. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Generic Fluff
Mark Messier is and always will be my favorite hockey player but this book provides no original insight into his character whatsoever. The book offers the same repetitve praise over and over about what great leader he is without ever touching upon the other sides of his personality, particularly the darker and more personal aspects that we don't get to read about in the paper. This book could have been written in a week.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Mess is all cleaned up
A great read....filled with insights and facts on how messier became thegreat player he is today.Great perspectives on mess from players tocoaches to writers.A must read for hockey fans of all ages.

4-0 out of 5 stars Refreshing!
Well written!Keeps you interested and waiting to find out what happens next.Mr. Carpiniello has given the reader a lovely glimpse into thecareer of a wonderful athlete. As a hockey mom whose son greatly admiresthis superstar, I am grateful for a biography that celebrates the leader, the nice guy.In answer to "Horrible", who cares whom theathletes go out with and who doesn't assume that they do?Fill in theblanks or read Jackie Collins. On target to what the sport is about.Thehard work, the dedication and the will to win!Well done! ... 3-0 out of 5 stars still waiting for Mess's own story
This biography is well written, pretty complete (although it was written before Messier retired) and fun to read. But it is unauthorized, as all Messier's biographies until now. So let's hope that some day Mark will tell his own story. That will be even more interesting.

4-0 out of 5 stars It's great
Comprehensive. Objective. Revealing. Gives a clear picture of
5-0 out of 5 stars The story of the greatest all-around player ever
Love him or hate him (and I love him), Mark Messier was the total hockey player. He could skate, shoot, score, play D and handle himself when the going got tough. The book does a great job of capturing the man who could almost will his team to win by his presence and his play. Klein does a great job of illustrating Messier's "lead by example." mentality. He also paints a fascinating picture of a guy who isn't just a jock, but is well-read, articulate, wears his heart on his sleeve and isn't afraid to shed some tears. I also appreciated the fact that, like anyone, he has shortcomings, and the author didn't overlook them. Any hockey fan will find this book ranks right up there with all the best hockey books. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A GREAT HOCKEY BOOK
Gordie a Hockey Legend is book is a great book for anyone who knows about hockey and what the sport is and how it has evolved for its early stages with the popular players like Gordie Howe, He really set the bar in hockey back in his days. He held the NHL scoring title with the most goals in his career with 801 goals until "The Great One", Wayne Gretzky passed him in April of 1993.Gordie is really a Hockey legend.
4-0 out of 5 stars Gordie Howe
Gordie Howe: A hockey legend tells about his whole life. From when he was little kid, to when he made it in the NHL. It tells about how he first came upon hockey as a little kid. It tells about his carrer and the NHL. I thought that this book was ok. Not horrible but not excellent. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn about gordie howe, or wants to read about him.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Book on Gordie Howe!
This book tells about Gordie Howe, one of the best hockey players ever, and his career in the NHL.In the beginning, it tells about his first couple of seasons, and then tells more about his great career and facts about himtoward the end. I learned a lot about him from this book, for example, Ilearned that he has played for two teams, the Hartford Whalers and theDetroit Red Wings, and that he was considered one of the greatest playersof his time. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars GREATEST AUTOBIOGRAPHY EVER!
I really liked this book, part of the reason for me liking it is that i like hockey a lot and i am a hockey fan. It was cool to learn about some of the history of one of the greatest players ever. the best part about this book was when wayne wrote about his childhood and his roots as a hockey player, it was also good when he talked about his carrer with the edmonton oilers and his four stanley cup championships and all of the art ross trophysand hart tropheys he won for all the years he was an MVP and leading scorer. However i thought that i got very boring towards the end of the book when he started talking about his marriage and his friends and other hockey players. But i liked the book and i learned a lot about hockey and the history of great players

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Book
Rick Reilly's autobiography on Wayne Gretzky is a life long story about the Gretzky family and Wayne's career. Gretzky tells about his life growing up, his career with the Edmonton Oilers, and how he captained them to four Stanley Cups. His disappointing trade to the Los Angeles Kings, the "deal of the century" for $15 million is also described. Reilly talks about Gretzky's records, the all-time NHL point scorer and assist maker.
5-0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Autobiography of All Time
What I enjoyed the most about this book was the character of Wayne Gretzky. I think that he is very diplomatic and has an inborn sense of fairness and his story of betrayal and how he acknowledged the good things he acquired from the person shows his true character. He is very honest about life and his ability to balance the good and the bad things in life was truly amazing to me. Even if you aren't a hockey fan this book is a must read. If you have a teenager I would highly recommend this reading as it is based on the reality of a man who was born with a gift that he used but does not deny the sacrifices that he had to make to get there. In these times it is critical for youth to understand integrity counts and this is truly a man of integrity. It covers family and devotion to family for which he clearly explains if it hadn't been for the sacrifices of his father he could have never achieved his goal. Last, I also admire his stating how parents should not force a child into such a career, it must be in their heart for them to do it and he is very honest and forthright in a matter of what lies ahead should any child pursue such a career as this. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Honest and Interesting Book, Good
I started reading this book because I had heard that Patrick Roy, who passed Terry Sawchuk's record of most winningest goalie, was reading it in order to find out more about the goalie he would be passing in the record books. What I found out as I continued reading was that even if you are just a fan of hockey in general, this is a great read. It is so honest that it is almost surprising that the Sawchuk family would want to release some of the information the reader finds out. It is even more interesting to read if you know someone who was an alcoholic, because Terry goes through many of the same troubles that other alcoholics do. The pictures included in the book are helpful and they give an idea of the people in Terry's life as well as the surroundings in his life. The writing style is easy to follow no matter how good of a reader you are, though sometimes the many statistics and names of other hockey players get confusing and boring. All in all, the Sawchuk book is fun to read and it really lets you in on Terry Sawchuks life on and off the ice.

5-0 out of 5 stars A GREAT LOOK AT THE GOOD AND BAD
THE AUTHOR DOES A SPECTACULOR JOB SHOWING THE GREAT CAREER OF A HOCKEY LEGEND. FROM HIS CHILDHOOD TO HIS FINAL DAYS, TERRY SAWCHUK WAS A VERY COMPLEX MAN. GOOD VS. EVIL FIGHT ALWAYS GOING ON INSIDE HIM. THE DREADED DEMON ALCOHOLISM IS WELL DESCRIBED AS TO WHY HE HAD SUCH ANGER AND MOOD SWINGS. A GREAT CAREER AND TURBULENT FAMILY LIFE. EVERY ASPECT OF SAWCHUK'S LIFE IS SO WELL DESCRIBED BY MR. DUPUIS. THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST BIOGRAPHIES I HAVE READ. THANKS FOR A GREAT JOB MR. DUPUIS. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, Easy, and Interesting Reading.
I bought this book as a present for my husband, who is a die hard hockey fan. But, I ended up reading it myself and I really enjoyed it.I get to know more of Terry Sawchuck than just the old NHL goalie whose record was just got broken by Roy.It is not the best written book, but it tells the story that it is suppose to tell.It was an easy and enjoyable reading and I am not even a Red Wings fan. ...
