5-0 out of 5 stars Great Account of the Senior Tour
This is a great read from one of the players themselves at the time. So, he's no Trevino or Palmer.Frank was a solid player (11 regular Tour wins, I think) during his regular Tour years and has proven himself admirably behind the mike for years with ESPN.He's a stand-up guy who tells it like it is.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars the great tiger
I truly enjoyed the biography of Tiger Woods by Bill Gutman. I thought it gave good insight into what makes him the champion that he is. It is the story of one family's search for the American dream and the glory of finding it. It details how the dreams of Tiger's faher became his own. All the sacfrifice that he and his family made are detailed and makes his accomplishments all the more spectacular. I think this is a great read for all those who are fans of drive and determination and not just for those who love golf.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for the hacker in all of us
This is an exciting, and compelling biography about the hottest player on the PGA Tour. This biography begins from when Tiger was two years old, and already hitting plastic golf balls in his front-yard. From not being allowed to play on certain golf courses, to being paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to play in tournaments, Tiger Woods is the jump-start that the PGA Tour needed. The bond between Tiger and his father grows from when Tiger won his first tournament as a youngster to his record setting performance at The Masters Tournament. This bond is seen throughout the entire biography. This biography is thilling, and threaded with compassion. Definetly for the avid golfer. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Great beginning, but bogs down later in the book
I really enjoyed the first 1/3 of this book, and laughed out loud many times while reading it. The writing is very lively and funny as he describes his obsession with golf, how he enjoys hitting balls anywhere he can (an open field, in the garage during the winter), how he was a late bloomer in golf, etc.
3-0 out of 5 stars My Futile Aspirations Confirmed
Anyone that loves golf and shoots a good round here and there has experienced the "why can't I do that every time" mentality. In "The Fine Green Line", John Newport takes that belief to the next level and puts into proper perspective the difficulty of "mastering" the addictive and occassionally rewarding game.I recommend this book for the regular or avid golfer who may be helplessly addicted and wants a humorous and very real account of just how mentally difficult consistently good golf can be.

5-0 out of 5 stars AGreat Golf Book
If you are really into golf, you will love this book.It has a lot of insight into what makes golf so addictive, as well as many first hand accounts of what it's like on golf mini-tours.The author explores what it is that separates the very good golfer (under 5 handicap), from the tour player. In the process, he examines, in away that most golf nuts can relate to, why golf has the attraction it does.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Light read, lacks depth
This is a very quick read. The author incorporates anecdote after anecdote, none lasting more than a couple of paragraphs. As others have noted there are better golf books out there, but this one is a very quick read, and you may come across a few stories that you haven't heard before.Recommended more for the golf novice (like myself) than the hardcore fan.

2-0 out of 5 stars Sliced For a Double Bogey
Just like the drive that starts right down the middle, then slices way off to the right, this book is a letdown.1-0 out of 5 stars There are many golf books better than this one!
Please don't waste your money on this book, while the premise is good, the writer appears to have no real access to the players and/or is very afraid of pissing them off.He doesn't tell anything pithy about any player ortournament and if you know anything about golf you will come away verydisappointed.Additionally, the author's writing is lackluster and heappears to rely on second hand information and the anecdotes of others. The best lines of this book are on the back of the jacket cover and afterthat well... there are just a lot of better golf books!Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice book for any golfer's collection
Kalb's books rank the greatest athletes in their sport, and this time he tackles golf. The Nicklaus chapter is priceless, and while I'm still not sure if he should be ranked ahead of Ben Hogan and behind Tiger, I enjoy Kalb's viewpoint. It's hard not to enjoy a book that stirs debates like this one does. You can't believe the pictures that are included in the center of the book. Some are stirring, some are humorous. This book has everyone it should...including great old golfers like Middlecoff, Demaret, and the like.Sam Snead fourth all-time?Ahead of Bobby Jones and Arnold Palmer?

4-0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly surprised
I've bought both of Kalb's previous books and while he's enraged me with some of his opinions, he has also intrigued and entertained me. I think his golf book is his best yet. It's more readerly and isn't as bulky as the other two. I found myself wanting to take in all of the entries. His pick of five female golfers was quite interesting and rounded out the book. Great photos by the way. Some real fun stuff! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars a quick, entertaining read
I can definately recommend this book, maybe not worth the cover price, but good if 2nd hand or from the library. Dr. Perrin's stories are funny, if you like Herriot, you will like this. However, I only gave it 4 stars because Perrin, while adequate, is not the most talented writer, and I found that the print in the book is very large and misrepresents how much text there actually is. I read through the book very quickly, I was hoping he would have packed more into the book. But still, it's a good read and has some good stories in it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious and a must read for any animal lover!!!!!
These books take you through hilarious and moving stories, real life stories of new veterinary in a little town.It inspires you to reach for your goals and never take no for an answer, great for inspiring vets or any animal lover!

3-0 out of 5 stars Interesting but wooden writing
This book is fascinating--stories from a rural vet in Canada, treating everything from cats to cows. The sad part is that Perrin isn't a very fluid writer, so it is sometimes a chore to get through.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Explains that Tiger is talented but that he earns his rewards
Written for children in grades 2-3, this is an excellent book about success and how hard it is to be successful. Despite all his talent, Tiger practices hard, often hitting as many as 1000 balls in a day. He also changed his diet, eating more healthy foods rather than those filled with fat. This is one of the most important lessons that children can earn. When they see a baseball player hit a home run, a basketball player make a shot or a golfer hit that great shot, children need to know that the player has done that thousands of times in practice.

Given golf's sad tradition of relegating women to secondary status in the grill room and non-prime times off the tees, it's not surprising--though hardly defensible--that the wisdom of the game's best women teachers has largely been pushed into the rough as well.
