Clearly the Worst Book Ever Written ...
As someone who has read a lot of inane sports book (if you took out all the f-words in Lenny Dykstra's book, it wouldn't even make for a pamphlet) but this clearly is the worst book ever published by someone who can seems to be able to speak English.
I thought it was decent
If you are familiar with Gary McCord then you should know that he is a little off the wall.Therefore, it wasn't a surprise that this book was off the wall.As a golfer, reading this book helped me to relax and enjoy the game more.It also helped in putting a smile on my face.This is not a book that should be taken seriously.Rather, it is a book that can help you find joy in the little things you do.

Entertaining and peculiar
This is an entertaining and somewhat peculiar collection of essays from Gary McCord.I say somewhat peculiar, because I'm never sure whether they are truthful or tall tales.Probably somewhere in between.But what doesit matter whether they're literally true or not--it's not as if I have somekind of personal reference what life on the PGA TOUR is like.Read more

A tribute to his legacy as a golfer and as a human being
Payne Stewart was a gifted professional golfer, a loving father, devoted husband, loyal friend, and a man of faith. On October 25, 1999, a plane on its way to Texas and carrying five people, crashed in a pasture in a remote area of South Dakota. The pilot and all of the passengers, including Payne Stewart, died. When he died, Stewart was enjoying his greatest year as a professional golfer as current defender of the U.S. Open, a member of the Ryder Cup Championship team, and the winner of the AT&T Celebrity Pro-Am in Pebble Beach. His silky golf swing and his knickers with a tam-o-shanter perched upon his head were all familiar trademarks of his colorful golfing persona. I Remember Payne Stewart is a tribute to his legacy as a golfer and as a human being through the comments, memories and anecdotes offered by relatives, college buddies, fellow golfers, sports reporters, and more. The Ultimate Darwin Book
Jeff Silverman's compliation of Darwin stories is a must have for any library. Long one of the Game's more overlooked heroes, Darwin's legendary writing style spells out in great detail of golf's most definitive years, where the purity and passion ruled the Sport.

An absolute gem
I've long heard about the wonderful golfing essays of Bernard Darwin, the grandson of Charles Darwin, but I've never been able to find a collection. I have now. This excellent anthology covers the breadth of Darwin's long and honored career. It is filled with writing to be savored, and how fortunate we golfers are that there exists prose of such quality, heart, intelligence and wit on the game we love so much. Whether he's profiling great golfers he saw play like Bobby Jones, Frances Ouimet, and Ben Hogan, touring courses like St. Andrews, offering a strategic tip, or just weighing in on the small, seemingly insignificant things we all think about over a round -- like why can't the group ahead move faster, or when is this string of good shots I've just hit going to end -- Darwin's words are moving, funny, lyrical and insightful. I'm thrilled someone's finally put a book like this together. Having just finished the copy I bought for myself, I've purchased another three to hand out to the rest of my regular foursome before we tee off next weekend. Great, even for non-golfers
I am surprised that this book was the source of so much enjoyment for me, since I had originally bought it thinking it was about Dick Dastardly from the Wacky Races (my youngest wanted it for Christmas).Suffice to say, come Christmas Day, Jeffrey was in tears and the whole household was looking at me reproachfully. Missed Birdie of a Book!
This book was similar to any par four played: average drive down the middle, with an average approach shot thirty feet from the pin.The birdie putt slid by two inches on the left. Putted in for par. An adamant Couples fan, I probably had higher expectations about a really good read about my favorite player.Learned alot about him, but style left me weary.Shot after shot description of each tournament left me tired.Not bad though overall.Anything on Freddie is appreciated!

The recultant superstar
I have always been a big fan of Freddy, this book explained his issues in a more concise way than I had previously thought they occurred. I highly recommend this book, whether your a fan of Fred or not, it provides aninsight into the rigors of a golf professional.

Jack is the greatest
This is the best book on Jack Nicklaus I have ever read.It details his career, but more important, insights into Jack's mind and his strategy.Tiger may be on his trail, but until he racks up a few more championships, Jack is the greatest.This is a must-read for Nicklaus lovers and there are many of us out there.

Actually, a quarter of a star. Hampered by overstylized, crummy writing; apparently no copyediting or proofreading, so mistakes aplenty; and, amazingly, zero quotes from Nicklaus. Author has a love/hate relationship with Jack. Just can't get the golden bear to speak to him. Does author really believe that Nicklaus--not Tiger--is golf's greatest champion? Even Nicklaus would find that hard to swallow. So was this sham of a book.

BEHIND THE TIGER
Who was the man who was behind Tiger Woods to mold and shape him into the champion that he is today? The answer is Earl Woods, Tiger's father, friend and confidant. Playing Through is Earl Woods' own biography of what it is like to be the father of one of golf's greatest stars. One would expect a cohesive and comprehensive story about Earl's life and that of his son. Instead you are presented with a man who is uncapable of seperating himself from the persona of his son. Earl Woods spends the majority of the time speaking about his son rather than himself. How strange, since the book is supposed to be about Earl Woods. Unfortunately it ends up as a promotional text about Tiger. The Man's Got Me Down
From this book, I get the feeling that Earl Woods is one of the most egotistical people I have ever come across.He does nothing but talk about how good he is at this, how good he is at that, what he did to bring up Tiger, etc.He even says his separation from his wife Tida is due to affluence, not that they are simply separated. Also, he takes no responsibility for anything that has ever happened to him.Every negative experience in his life was due to him being a minority.Give me a break. Read more

A Good Read
This is a good introduction to the history of African Americans and their quest to enter the professional ranks / PGA.It needs to be read with Charlie Sifford's book which tells you the real deal.Kennedy really can't express the pain of black golfers,he gets close but the book is more of an overview. Key and critical details are left out of the book.I can't over emphasize how important it is for you to read Charlie Sifford's, Just Let Me Play as well as Calvin Sinnette's, Forbidden Fairways.

Dear author, thank you . . .
This is truly a long-overdue book.This was received as a birthday gift to my husband and I could not resist.Very well written and is a wonderful and tragic chronicle of America's history in human relations.Yes, we are better today.We are reminded of the wonders of all people and how much we have to learn from eachother.When will we have the ability to evaluate skill and talent beyond skin color or accent?This book reminds us to appreciate eachother.This should be required reading in our junior high schools as part of American history/social studies.

Interesting, but not an in-depth analysis
Greg Norman is a great golfer. He has an incredible fascination for many golfers and his fans. I haven't found in this book in-depth analysis of his character, his passion for the golf, his competitive drive, and why he isso charismatic for many of us.A detailed biography is yet to come.

Interesting book & a man who's never boring
Ms St. John's book is a fascinating look at a man who is extremely complex.Much like his approach to the green, Greg Norman is bold, aggressive, and sometimes to his detriment, brutally honest.I foundinteresting the people who do and do not like him.I for one, find him to be refreshing and never boring as so many PGA players are today.Keep breaking the mold, Greg!We need to be kept on our toes!

Dont' Waste Your Money
Larry Guest wasted his time writing this book, and you'll be wasting your time AND your money if you're foolish enough to buy a copy.This work is nothing more than a bunch of over-used annecdotes delivered up by a former Palmer groupie.It is not well researched, and it adds nothing to the current literature on Arnold Palmer.The writing is second-rate.

Sycophantic and fawning.I can't believe I wasted my money.
This book purports to be an objective account of the great Arnold Palmer's life and times on the professional golf tour.What it actually is, is a collection of hashed over insider non-jokes collected by a long time Palmercamp follower.There is very little meat on this bone.Read more

A moving book
The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because I thought it contained full stories (like the ones in the Chicken Soup series)and not simply quotes, which by the way are sometimes moving. I liked to read how famous people remembered their teachers, we don't usually get to know that information.
From a teacher and a student
Perfect book to make teachers feel good--and to make students remember why they loved their best teachers.There is something here for everyone--from the A student to the less successful, from college mentors to grade school inspirers.The famous and the more common former students share their reminisces with humor, with pride, but mostly with thanks.A great gift and a great read.

Only Golf Spoken Here is definitely about more than golf
Ivan Morris's book, Only Golf Spoken Here, will entertain more than just passionate golfers.It is witty and thoughtful and gives even non-golfers a glimpse into what makes him so passionate about the game.I was charmed and hope to see more from Mr. Morris.

I have played golf in Ireland for sixteen years and many rounds with the author. His passion for golf is overwhelming. He knows the game from every point of view.He will entertain, educate and introduce you to some of the greatest courses in the world.The stories of some of Irelands golfers are the best part for me.
