1-0 out of 5 stars Nothing new here - move along
It is shameful that "Best Friend" Billy Noonan felt the need to dish about John Kennedy and his family. We all know that John valued his privacy and one would think that he would be horrified at this betrayal.
1-0 out of 5 stars Boring, Screams, "I'M THE REAL BEST FRIEND", and Poorly Written
Carol Radziwill's book was a tribute to her husband, and wonderfully and warmly written. The mentions of John and Carolyn were in context of their relationship, and truly showed their personalities. The retelling of John singing a boyhood song to Anthony brought tears to my eyes.
5-0 out of 5 stars Poignant and Humorous Story of Friendship
The author does summon up a particular demographic (affluent Irish-Catholic third-generation young men in the Boston/Hyannis/Cape Cod area) and epoch (those coming-of-age between the mid-70s and 1990s) in this tale of friendship set against a larger backdrop with regard to the identity of one of the friends and, of course, the ultlimate tragedy that overtakes them.Noonan is generous with the details and challenges in his own life, from testicular cancer (and apparently a recurrence a year ago made him all the more intent on sharing his own story with readers) to the loss of his own father to personal flounderings with regard to college and overall life-direction. Naysayers who regard this story as an "invasion of privacy" overlook the fact that this tale is an intensely personal one and that it is the privelege of a writer to share as he pleases. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Way We Were:Remembering Diana
I read Burrell's other book, "A Royal Duty" and came away feeling that the author was obsessed with his employer and that he was a neurotic.
4-0 out of 5 stars Well written, didn't want it to end
Well written and a must read if you want to read about Princess Diana, the person. He doesn't make her out to be bigger than life. The author seems unbiased because he writes about her faults as well as her assets. Enjoyed Paul's sons remembrances of fun times with Diana, William and Harry.
5-0 out of 5 stars Absolute GOLD !
For anyone who loves Princess Diana, this book is pure, absolute gold. Paul Burrell tells stories about her that no one else can, because he lived and worked with her for years. The book is respectfully written, yet also very entertaining. He reveals aspects of their life together with total love and not the slightest hint of gossip or nastiness. Paul Burrell remains sensitive to The Boss and I, for one, will welcome any book he writes about Diana because it's plain to see that he is telling the truth. Anyone in the royal household who has a problem with him or his books needs to get a grip. Diana belonged to the world, and they should be thankful that with all the other books out there floating around about her, that this one tells it like it was, and stands head and shoulders above the others. Highly recommended reading. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Eternal truths (and lies)
This is the most candid and honest record of Trump's deals by the great master to date, or so it seems. This impression can be attributed, however, to the great job Tony Schwartz did on this book. Compare this to Trump's "How to get rich" and you know what I mean.
4-0 out of 5 stars Written After The Early Years: Good Trump Entertainment
Let us give him his due. He has great style and tenacity and the nerve. This book was written in better days before his fall. I have visited a number of his buildings - which I understand that he was closely and personally involved in the design and construction - and they are beautiful.
3-0 out of 5 stars For What Its Worth
You never know whether to ever really trust what Trump says or not. I actively avoided reading this book for some time. I just resisted it. I must have felt that it is a propoganda piece and I was right. It is just another win for Trump. Another chance to boast about himself and his competence. And the ironic thing is the lesson to be learned by the man on the street is exactly that. In real estate, it is simply connection and bravado after a certain level of core competencies have been achieved. This book does not go into the details of how to do what he has done.....as step by step approach beside being boring would have been ridiculous. First thing to do is go back in time and be born in a family where your father is a wealthy builder. And be born to a father who was historically in the right situation himself--building homes when the soldiers came home and started families. The second thing is go to the premier business school in the nation. After that, you do a few deals with your father and learn the business inside and out. After that make some connections through your father's friends. And the most important thing is to start your career and venture when the real estate market is absolutely deppressed. You can't help but make money.

1-0 out of 5 stars just a clip job
save your money/don't waste your time reading this book. not only is taraborrelli an atrocious writer, this book is only a clip job. he has no new sources except for a beverly hills hairdresser who's not really giving up any inside info on Liz as he's still doing her hair. he's lifted any anecdotes in this book from all the preceeding Liz books and it's torture to have read his writing. it's stupifying that he even gets published but it shows you that some publishers are desperate for any celebrity book on their list.

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting Biography
I think this book was very good.I liked how the book began with the story of Elizabeth's mother and father and her intense relationship with her mother and how it made her into the actress she is today.I found the book very humorous and very sad at times. But all together I thought the book was informative and engaging.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't even bother................
I've been a fan of Elizabeth Taylor's for almost longer than I can remember, and there isn't a book about her that I don't have, but this is one that even I could have done without.

3-0 out of 5 stars I beleive half of what she said.
Interesting tale, but like another reviewer said, save your money and borrow it from someone else.It was interesting that the author claimed to always be the innocent one in all the drama and scandal.I found that hard to believe.Regarding other things she said seemed to make sense and definitely revealed life at the Playboy Mansion as less glamorous than you'd think. It really annoyed me when she complained about Hef not paying her student loans.Had she finished taking the bar exam and pursued a career in law she would've been able to pay them herself. She lost most of her credibility when she said that and it was right in the beginning of the book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Amusing, if you can borrow it, but save your money
I love to read autobiographies and the like, and Bunny Tales was my most recent read. The grammatical errors were numerous, but I was able to work past them and focus on content. The stories of the parties and sexual escapades I have read before - no surprise there. As for Hefner, he can live anyway he chooses; don't knock it if you are going to live it. He doesn't owe these girls anything, yet St. James comes across as selfish and superficial and most of all, ungrateful.
3-0 out of 5 stars Interesting Read
Although I agree that this book was filled with too many contradictory statements and spelling/gramatical errors to count, it was nonetheless a very interesting read. I was intrigued to find out what actually happens behind the closed doors of the Playboy mansion, and I'm left wondering if what is shown on "The Girls Next Door" isn't all for show? I'm guessing it is, however what reality TV show isn't?

3-0 out of 5 stars Not nearly as good a book as I'd hoped
I've just gotten this book so I'm still reading it but I've already spotted some things I don't like about it. The writing style isn't what I'd expect from an experienced writer, large parts of the book consisting of page long paragraphs- it's as if she went into a trance and the stuff just streamed out. You do find a lot of information and a large number of footnotes indicating that the author used just about every Diana book you already own as research material. I don't guess it's a bad book, just so hard goingwith those looooong paragraphs!
4-0 out of 5 stars first real biography of Diana, Princess of Wales
This is the first proper biography of Diana, Princess of Wales, as opposed to memoirs by former employees (Jephson, Wharfe, Burrell) or more or less ax-grinding efforts by journalists (Morton, Seward, Junor). Bradford, an experienced biographer, has produced a sound and workmanlike book, and without sacrificing balance or accuracy or contending that the late princess was a flawless biped makes the best pro-Diana case to date.
5-0 out of 5 stars Superlative biography of a truly remarkable woman
Overall, I enjoyed this book very much and found it an extremely well researched and thoughtful biography of the late Princess of Wales. Diana's life is chronicled from her life as the youngest daughter in an influential, aristocratic British family to her untimely death in Paris in 1997. Diana indeed was from a notable family and of which she was rightly proud. The ill fated union of her parents is described as well as the impact of their turbulent divorce on their young children, especially Diana. Diana was said to be very much influenced by her paternal grandmother whose charitable works and compassion were passed on to her granddaughter (Diana's paternal grandmother looked remarkably like Diana as well--one of the portraits shown in the illustrations demonstrates this--it is a rather striking resemblance).

4-0 out of 5 stars A Lot of Courage Required...
A lot of people have been critical of Brooke Shields because she has an enormous amount of money and resources (that most of us don't have in order to get help), but I think that's the point of her story; despite the money, fame, and resources, she developed PPD.She was just as helpless as any woman suffering PPD and didn't know what to do. I think Ms. Shields was brave to write so candidly about her experience.Even though I didn't experience severe PPD, I did feel some depression after I had my baby. My birth was similar to Shields', except that I received a blood transfusion in order to save my life. After I came home from the hospital, I had irrational fears (that seemed so rational to me at the time) of having received contaminated blood, that prevented me from continuing to breastfeed, which further depressed me. I also cried in the shower because I thought I was a terrible mother for not breastfeeding, and I felt so alone and unworthy. My husband was supportive and tried to help, but he didn't know what to do to improve the situation. Fortunately, my depression gradually dissipated, and I felt happy, healthy, strong, and I knew then that I would be a great mom.
5-0 out of 5 stars Baby Blues No Small Matter
This is a book I now keep in mind for my soon-to-be new mom friends just in case, that along with the numbers of womens' clinics at various hospitals and health centers that treat post-partum depression.
5-0 out of 5 stars A must read for new mothers
This book actually helped me put into words what I was experiencing with postpartum depression.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect book for Newhart fans
Seeing on Amazon that there is an audio CD of this book makes me wish I had listened to that instead. If only to hear the amazingly funny stories that Bob tells so well. This book is like a breath of fresh air for all those who enjoy Bob Newhart's subtle and yet hysterical brand of comedy. Reading this book makes me wish his fantastic TV shows were still on in syndication somewhere. He tells his life story with the same dry wit that he tells all of his jokes. This book is a must for anyone who is a Newhart fan.

3-0 out of 5 stars ENJOYABLE, BUT SLIGHT.
I've recently rediscovered THE BOB NEWHART SHOW on DVD and it more than stands up to my memory of it being one of the funniest TV comedies of the '70s.I was also a fan of NEWHART in the '80s and Bob's deadpan performance at this year's Emmys made me laugh out loud.So the release of Newhart's autobiography dovetailed nicely with my renewed interest in Mr. Newhart and I was especially curious to read his recollections of his years on television.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good For Getting Your Mind Off Other Things
"I Shouldn't Even Be Doing This" is Bob Newhart's biography, with whimsical insights into his early life, tentative beginnings in comedy, and then on to "The Bob Newhart" show and stardom. As one would expect, the book is both laidback and interesting; even better it helps fill your mind with more relaxing thoughts after being broadsided with countless stories about Rep. Foley, North Korea's "bomb" (?), Iraq, Iran's pursuit of nuclear (?), Woodward's latest book, falling house prices, the stock market bubble (part II), and Barbra Streisland's latest outburst.

Editorial Review

Ron Chernow, whose previous books have taken on the Morgan and Warburg financial empires, now turns his attention to the patriarch of the Rockefeller dynasty. John D. was history's first recorded billionaire and one of the most controversial public figures in America at the turn of the 20th century. Standard Oil--which he always referred to as the result of financial "cooperation," never as a "cartel" or a "monopoly"--controlled at its peak nearly 90 percent of the United States oil industry. Rockefeller drew sharp criticism, as well as the attention of federal probes, for business practices like underpricing his competitors out of the market and bribing politicians to secure his dominant market share. 5-0 out of 5 stars Very Interesting Book For Gene Simmons Fans
I bought this book because I am a huge Gene Simmons fan and was hoping to gain some interesting insight into the man through Shannon's experiences of being with him for over 20 years. I was not disappointed. I found out some really neat details of Gene's life 'behind the mask' but I also really gained an appreciation for all that Shannon has gone through and how her wonderful spirit has kept her afloat through life's many hills and valleys. This is one of those books that you just can't put down and it goes really fast, in a good way; a definite 'page-turner'.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, but not just for women
This is an easy read, I read it in 4 hours. Well written and packed with heartwarming true story of Shannon's life. She's not afraid to tell you details of some deep personal experiences. From childhood to life with Gene Simmons is never boring. She's a strong women who stand tall, never falling like most Playboy playmates. She and Gene blend perfect for a wonderful lasting relationship. She loves Gene and her children, yet lives her life putting shame to other women who torment their partners. Wonderful color photos in the book, not only for the women, but men too. You don't want to let this pass by, it's a great read for all. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars 2 Live Crue!
I only listen to music that I can do The Sprinkler to. Testify! (And I don't mean a literal sprinkler, like the Crue did in Hotel rooms and fruit bowls). But Motley Crue does heavy metal. So what does this fan of rap and GQ sweatsuits (me) think of these frazzled tomcats? Not much.At least regarding their music. But as writers, they have a certain sizzle! As DJ Spry sampled from the once great Billy Joel, "Honesty is such a lonely word. And mostly what I want from you." These Crue boys bring the honesty uncut, and let it flow like Kristal down the Sunset gutter! My, my, my look what the cat dragged in, STRAIGHT up! Like most rappers, the Crue get more tail than an Addams house cat, write LARGE cliche song hooks, and party. (Nikki gets busy with Prince muse Vanity!). Unlike most rappers, they get into hard drugs and don't dress very dapper or even fly.(The book has lots of pics and full page glossies -- what the?!).And unlike ANY rappers, they write a lot about psychotherapy stuff. Rappers building a commercial empire don't have time for that, nowatimsayn?!! But the Crue are white, and we see that they're human... and every rose has its thorn.
5-0 out of 5 stars Loved this book, didn't even like Motley Crue before this.....
I recommend this book to anybody who is interested on the real life of rock and roll bands who don't burn out and break up after one or two years.Being in a band is like being married to 4 people. It is hard to get along, but they managed to do it without killing each other or themselves. It got hairy at the end between Vince and Tommy, Vince trying to snitch on Tommy to get him thrown back in jail, what a pansy! But from the beginning to the end, there just wasn't any boring spots.I could have done without the "shooting" remarks, I'll let the readers figure that one out.But I just ignore that stuff and stuck to the literary genius these guys put out. Many Kudo's.You will love this book too.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a page turner.
I just loved this book. Neil Strauss and the motley crue boys have a written a masterpiece.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Work
Being that Slim Aarons recently passed away, his work warrants an even closer work. What this book and the equally impressive Once Upon a Time have in common is that they portray true grace, elegance and class that makes todays celebrities look like a bunch of bums.

4-0 out of 5 stars Farewell to a Bygone Era
With the recent death at age eighty of Slim Aarons the end of the time of the 'beautiful people' seems at an end - at least the photo documented class of the rich and famous as seen by the chief photographer of that elite group.
4-0 out of 5 stars Town and Country
Slim Aarons really knew how to capture the jet set of a certain era, his images are so well crafted and the lucky subjects are always shown in there best light, literally and figuratively. The best picture in an array of amazing photography, and one that perfectly captures this rarified air, is the iconic picture of CeZe Guest standing by her pool, it captures all you need to know good and bad, through the prism of a beautiful woman, in a beautiful setting without a seeming care in the world, the very definition of, "To the Manor Born".Mr. Aarons captures so perfectly a life of unapolegetic jet setting opulance, and whether he means to are not he also captures the shallowness of it all, and you wonder, with all of this, are these people really any happier than the rest of us? ... 3-0 out of 5 stars More photos would have made it more interesting
Like the other reviewers here, I too found some passages tedious and repetitive.Seemed like the author just didn't get his teeth into the book....kind of like he just "whetted" the appetite.Since I purchased this on this website, I was hoping to see lots of photos but that's not the case. That was disappointing. It was still an interesting read about people who have too much money and sometimes, too much time on their hands. Does anyone need a 76 room 3 story apartment where only 2 people live?

3-0 out of 5 stars More Than I Wanted to Know
740 Park was developed by Jackie Onassis' maternal grandfather, and became her childhood home.It was conceived in 1929 as the most expensive, best apartment house in the world, but instead turned into a financial sinkhole for its first 50 years. Its exterior walls are 2.5 feet thick, and the floors 1.5 feet.
4-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly interesting ;-)
I don't know what made me take a look at this let alone read it.It's not normally my type of book and the subject matter whilst interesting, isn't also my type of subject. However, I must say this was surprisingly interesting and kept me interested for some time.I did take off a star for length. It is almost 600 pages, but the well researched information in here is not too hard to get through.

4-0 out of 5 stars Too much detail about the design of his shoe.
BUT, if you take anything out of this book, it's the fact that Jordan works harder than his peers, whether it was basketball or business. His inner drive and desire to succeed and give it his all is what I took away from the book.I would skim the parts on shoe design and focus mainly on his words and advice, especially on work ethic.
4-0 out of 5 stars DRIVEN FROM WITHIN
THIS WAS A GIFT.RECEIPIENT WAS SATISFIED.HE IS A 19 YEAR OLD INTO SPORTS AND MICHAEL JORDAN IS SOMEONE WHO HE ADMIRES AND WOULD RECOMMEND TO OTHERS.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Michael Jordan Book!!!
I am a big fan of basketball as well as Michael Jordan and this book is just awesome! It gives a very good description of Michael Jordan's life, and how his life is put into his shoes.

4-0 out of 5 stars Beautifully Written
Those of us who have a story to share should do so, and this story is beautifully written; WHAT REMAINS is a unique one, worth telling, and would be even if it did not involve America's single most famous family. The details Carole Radziwill reveals are intimate, yet never give away more than those connected and still living would find intrusive. At times her pain is almost palpable, and she seems still slightly bewildered about her life and the tragic turn it took during the summer of 1999. The very fact that she did live it and came through it gives her every right to tell about it, and I am glad she chose to do so.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Moving Memoir Of Love & Death
This is not the memoir of Carole Radziwill. It is a memoir for each person who reads the moving story.
2-0 out of 5 stars In the end, did they have in common besides ABC news?
In one of what appears to be Carole Radizwill's not-so-subtle jabs at her mother-in-law (and at many of the extended family), she implies Lee wondered what exactly her son saw in Carole ... something along the lines of "how much do they have in common beides ABC?"After finishing this book, I have to say I have no idea what, if anything, they did have in common, nor, more importantly, what it was that first caused them to fall in love. While I can understand and appreciate the author's reservations about revealing too much of their personal relationship, I think she fails to convey why they even had any relationship in the first place. As has been commented on by many reveiwers, she sounds much more passionate when she writes of Carolyn Bessette Kennedy (again, not in a lesbian way, but in an idealized school-girl crush way).I found myself wondering if they really were as close as Carole portrays, or if this book is a rather sad attempt to publicly attach herself to Carolyn forever. ...
